China visits KTU
9-11 October 2018
The KTU hosted a delegation from China on 9-11 October. Professor Chi, Director of the Department of General Practice at Peking University Health Sciences Centre and Peking University First Hospital, has been in discussion with the BMJ and KTU about localising, implementing and evaluating PACK for China’s primary care system. As the Chinese National Health Commission has authorised a PACK research pilot project in China, Professor Chi was accompanied by the Commission’s Deputy Director General, Mr Liqun Liu, and Division Director, Mr Kai Chen. The visit was also attended by Mrs Yuyan Kong, Managing Director of BMJ China and Associate Professor Wang Yu, from the College of Public Health at Peking University.
The visitors met the KTU team members, heard the story of the PACK programme and the team’s localisation experiences in Brazil, Nigeria and Ethiopia and started detailed planning for the pilot project. They also observed a PACK training session at the Khayelitsha District office and visited Matthew Goniwe clinic. The 2018 edition of PACK Global Adult has been translated into Mandarin, and the team are now ready to start work to localise the PACK guide and training materials according to Chinese standard treatment guidelines and health policy. We're looking forward to working with our colleagues in China to develop, implement and evaluate the PACK China pilot programme!
