Scott Mahoney is the Head of Clinical Innovation at the Knowledge Translation Unit (KTU) and has been part of the team since 2023.

In his current role, Scott is working to digitise the KTU’s clinical decision support tools, using innovative digital health approaches that are both appropriate and sustainable for resource limited settings. This includes leveraging AI for enhanced evidence synthesis and systems development. 

Before entering into academia and research, Scott held various medical officer roles at different levels of health care across South Africa, in both the public and private sectors. These experiences developed his interest in strengthening health systems through clinical innovation and digital health approaches that are well-suited to the unique health needs in South Africa and beyond. This includes work in mHealth, digitised clinical decision support systems, as well as the ongoing investigation and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) driven solutions. 

Scott is passionate about future-proofing health systems for the benefit of both patient and provider and improving digital health equity.
